Funtionality with multiple devices connected to the OBDII port

Post by racer x »

I am interested in purchasing the Freematics data logger, but I will also have aftermarket ODBII performance gauges connected to the port as well.

In my limited knowledge of CAN bus is that it is a multi-master communication scheme where each CAN node has a unique message ID. However, I am not sure if having 2 devices asking for, say, RPM data, will have an arbitration issue. As long as the CAN node ID's are different between the gauge and Freematics, there should be no problem asking for the same PID information. Is this correct?

Has there been any testing with multiple devices with the Freematics connected to the OBDII port?

The easiest solution, but not optimal, is to simply unplug the gauges when using Freematics.
