You must turn the car with the key before the OBD-II data can be accessed.

Make sure the gps baud rate matches your gps model.

Have you tried obd.init() with a specified protocol?

When you connect serial monitor, the arduino board will reset. It is likely that the adapter is initialized after the board starts up. You can try add a delay(3000) in the beginning of setup().

Please check if OBD.h is intact.

A bug in OBD library which affects initialization of OBD-II UART adapter was solved. This bug also affects OBD-II Telematics Kit #1 which includes OBD-II UART adapter.
