Power supply options v2.1 UART

Post by leshkin »

Hi all, I'm working on a OBD gauge project and was wondering if there is an option to provide switched-live power supply to the adapter, rather than relying on the permanent 12V supply from the OBDII port?

The reason I ask is that I only want the gauge and adapter to be powered-on when the ignition is switched-on and not worry about suspending the unit. Anyone did this and has success or are there reasons not do do it this way?

My thinking was to reroute the live feed from a switched live location in the fuse box, thus achieving the desired effect - are there any problems with this approach? If this is fine, how does one go about opening up the adapter without damaging it - it seems glued together?
