Diagnostic command replication

Post by spiffy926 »

Hello! I'm new here, interested in using the "one +" to sniff for data sent by a scan tool through the OBD port to perform a diagnostic function, so I can replicate this with the one+ automatically under certain conditions.
Is this a tecnically feasible project for this device?
Will I need to utilize an OBD2 splitter to capture the data?
I appreciate any help or guidance as a newb. I'm a mechanic by trade, with some programming experience from many years ago. I'm willing to delve into this to open up new possibilities to modify the functionality of my service van. All the desired functions I'd like to automate I've been able to command manually from the scan tool.

Edit: Additonally, and maybe more to the core of what I need to know: Is this device capable of sending data to the ECU? I understand with it you can read PIDs and other data from the ECU, but it is fully capable of communicating with the ecu via the CAN bus and other protocols? Has anyone been able to for example, send a command to the body control module to raise and lower the window? or honk the horn? or something along those lines?
