arduino builder fail to build

Downloaded latest version of arduino builder. point at downloaded freematics one+ firmware v5/datalogger directory selected datalogger.ino, started
build, get error :
compiling datalogger.ino.cpp
error compiling source.
If I rename datalogger.ino to datalogger.cpp it tries to compile datalogger.cpp.cpp This is under W10/64 in an VMwareFusion hosted os on a MAC
If the entire source is on a networked share or a vmware shared partition (like vmware fusion on a mac) the builder cant even find the sketch when
pointing to that file and refuses to load.
