CAN sniffing with One+ model A?

I have a One+ I got last year some time. I tried the CAN bus sniffing example but it never got past the setup(). I see there is now a model A and model B, and they both say they are capable of CAN bus sniffing. I'm assuming there was a change made to the model A to enable sniffing?
Really, I may have an application where sniffing would really enable a key feature I want so I wanted to make sure that if I got a new model A it truly supports it since my older model doesn't seem to.
